Solomon Islands Participates at 8th ROK-PIF Senior Officials Meeting in Nadi

Solomon Islands participated in the 8th Korea–Pacific Islands Senior Officials Meeting held in Nadi, Fiji, on 21 May 2026.

Solomon Islands participated in the 8th  Korea–Pacific Islands Senior Officials Meeting held in Nadi, Fiji, on 21 May 2026.

During the meeting, Solomon Islands highlighted the importance of the growing partnership between  the Republic of Korea and Pacific Islands Forum and stressed the need for cooperation initiatives to align with the priorities of the National Development Strategy (NDS)and the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent.

Solomon Islands also joined PIF members in reaffirming climate change as the single greatest threat facing the livelihoods, security, and well-being of Pacific peoples and in this regard thank Korea’s support towards the  Pacific Resilience Facility and further encourage them to  support regional preparations towards the Pacific-hosted Pre-COP31 process.

The meeting also heard updates from regional project beneficiaries of the ROCK-PIF Cooperation Fund, which is a funding mechanism established  by the Republic of Korea in 2008 for capacity building and technological support for Pacific Island countries.

Other regional assistance from Korea in maritime affairs, fisheries management, digital connectivity, and youth and skills was also acknowledged by Solomon Islands.

On bilateral cooperation, Solomon Islands acknowledges the Government of Korea’s ongoing development assistance to the country, particularly in the areas of education, fisheries, health, and renewable energy.

During discussions, the Head of Delegation thanked the Government of Korea for its support to the Tina River Hydropower Project and highlighted that this project serves as a public-private partnership model in renewable energy infrastructure development for which other countries in the Pacific can replicate.

The meeting was co-chaired by Korea’s Deputy Minister for Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Chung Eu-Hee, and Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Fiji, His Excellency Joseph Ma’ahanua, who was also Solomon Islands Head of Delegation to the meeting.

The meeting provided an opportunity for Korea and PIF members to strengthen cooperation and begin discussions towards the Korea–PIF Foreign Ministers Meeting to be hosted in Seoul in 2027.
