The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is now a member of the World’s largest Police organisation, INTERPOL.
Police Commissioner, Matthew Varley confirmed, saying he was pleased that RSIPF was now a part of global Policing.
He said their submission was sent last year and was reviewed until its approval this year as INTERPOL was reviewing its criteria on membership that saw RSIPF’s membership being deferred.
Mr Varley said all necessary formalities had been met, and the RSIPF was eligible to vote at INTERPOL’s general assembly elections at the end of September in Beijing, China.
He said RSIPF will now embark on setting up an INTERPOL Bureau.
“We will do some work on what we call the National Central Bureau, every country that is a member of INTERPOL has to establish a team to join up with the intelligence sharing with them,” he said.
“The important things is that we will have better access to all international crime information that INTERPOL has to help our investigations as well.”
INTERPOL is the world’s largest police organisation with 190 member countries with the primary role of assisting law enforcement agencies around the world in combating all forms of transnational crime and terrorism.
