Solomon Islands and the world will become a better place to live in if the home is a secure place.
The Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer made the statement in his keynote address to officially launch the 16 Days of Activism against Gender based Violence Campaign in Honiara yesterday.
The campaign began with the International Day of Elimination of Violence against Women, which falls annually on November 25.
The focus of the campaign in Solomon Islands this year is on ending domestic violence in homes and the theme is “Hapi Family, Hapi Kandere: Endim Vaelens Insaed lo Hom”.
Reflecting on the focus and theme, the Chief Justice says our nation and the world will become a better place, if the home is a secure place to live in.
“The heart of the problem of Gender-based Violence occurs or originates in the home and family setting and so it is only fitting to address the problem at its root, as the saying goes make the root good and the tree and its fruit will be good but if the root is bad or deceased, the tree and its fruit will be bad as well.”
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender based Violence Campaign continues until December 10 – International Human Rights Day.
