SOLOMONS UNVEILED TOURISM BLUE PRINT

Solomon Islands has unveiled its tourism blueprint at the recent South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) Council of Tourism Ministers meeting in Rarotonga, Cooks Islands.

Minister of Culture and Tourism, Hon. Bartholomew Parapolo said the Government has used this opportunity to draw reference to its work in order to review and introduce specific tourism legislation.

A statement from the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau said the intention here is centred around Government plans for its tourism sector.

This strategy includes the implementation of a Solomon Islands Tourism Investment Incentives Package in response to increasing interest from potential investors in both the hotel and product
development areas.

Meanwhile, the statement said as part of this new approach the Government is also exploring viable options for public-private partnerships in the tourism sector and working closely with existing
hotel owners to further explore options which include the introduction of a Minimum Quality Standard for the industry.

Minister Parapolo outlined visitor plans for the next five years – a plan complementing the national tourism development strategy in place since 2015.

The Minster affirms, this is crucial to update the country’s National Tourism Policy, facilitate growth and focus on upgrading tourism accommodation and product.
