Public servants in parliament have a big reduction in special duty and overtime allowances.
Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare announced the reduction in parliament last week.
He said the reduction of $410,647.00 was due to the cancellation of the Speaker’s driver special duty and overtime allowances.
He adds the government will hold consultations with the Speaker to determine whether such allowances are possible.
“There’s a big reduction of $410, 647.00 so it’s just appropriate that it catches the Parliament’s eyes and so that particular item Sir was originally intended to meet the Speaker’s driver’s overtime allowance. We probably don’t need that now Sir because we will keep a very close consultation with the Speaker it needs to happen then we can look at it, but just that it is so huge to pay only one driver, Sir.”
