The “State of Disaster” declaration for Honiara, Guadalcanal and Isabel and Malaita, has been revoked.
Minister responsible for Disaster Management, Bradley Tovosia revoked the ‘State of Disaster’ at 2pm this afternoon.
Honiara City, parts of Guadalcanal and the two provinces were declared a “State of Disaster” on April 4, following flash floods, which had taken more than 20 lives and left thousands more homeless.
Officially revoking the “State of Disaster” declaration, Minister Tovosia says relief and early recovery work over the past three months had been successful.
“Today I am pleased to report that the emergency response, relief and early recovery work over the past three and half months had been successful. Furthermore, the situation which occasioned the declaration no longer exist. Consequently, under section 12 (2) of the National Disaster Council Act Cap 148 I on the advice of the NDC revoke the declaration of “State of Disaster” Honiara and Guadalcanal order published under legal notice 34 of 2014 on the 4th of April, thank you.”
SIBC News understands, the National Disaster Council is also satisfied that there are no more circumstances to warrant the State of Disaster declaration.
