Two young students yesterday received a laptop each for their winning entries in a poster competition aimed at raising awareness on the impact of gender-based violence.
World Vision Solomon Islands with the support of World Vision USA launched the poster competition in August this year.
Thirteen-year-old Danielson Ofia from Naha Community High School won the high school category.
Sally Irofui from the Kukum Seventh Day Adventist Primary School won the Sunday school category.
Danielson described his poster, which showed two hands, a strong male hand grasping a softer and weaker female hand.
“I drew the hand of a man holding the hand of a woman. Then I drew a sentence Stop Violence against Women. The message I want people to take from the poster I drew is that violence against women is bad because it is against the rights of women too.”
The two winners took home a laptop each, while the runner-ups in the competition received tablets.
More than 100 entries were received from 11 schools around Honiara for the competition.
