“What I am emphasizing and effectively saying is without the private sector, the government cannot effectively achieve all the wonderful things we say in our glossy policy statements.
It is just fitting and very appropriate that the provision of a sound investment environment to ensure the survival of the private sector in difficult and challenging times must always be the priority of the government.”
Prime Minister Sogavare also emphasized on the government’s duty to provide opportunities for private sectors in these challenging times.
“What I’m effectively saying is the government has a duty as the pivotal party with all the regulatory and administrative powers to create opportunities amidst the challenges in a Covid-19 world,” he adds.
Sogavare also stated that the Coordinating Ministerial Cabinet Committee (CMCC) has assigned a sub-committee to review the current government development policies.
“The CMCC has tasked a sub-committee to relook at the development policies of the government with the view to establish whether they are still relevant in a world that is fast changing due to the global structural institutional and behavioral changes affecting world trade and investment,” he said.
Sogavare said he is looking forward to discuss in Cabinet the report of the recent SICCI Infrastructure Symposium.
The report discussed ways in which local content and participation in aid funded infrastructure development programs in the country can be improved.
