Police in Guadalcanal Province arrested a 40-year-old suspect in connection with the death of a young girl last week at Avuavu in the Weathercoast area of South Guadalcanal.
Officers at the Marau Police Station arrested the suspect after asking him to come to the station from his village at Haliatu, also on Guadalcanal’s Weathercoast.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Honiara Central Magistrates’ Court today.
The 17-year-old girl allegedly went missing on November 14 after attending Bubutasi Primary School in Avuavu, and her parents searched for her until November 17 when her body was found in a bush in the Churuna area inland of Avuavu Lake.
Guadalcanal Provincial Police Commander Nixon Manetoga said police will wait for a medical report on the deceased before making any statements on the cause of death.
