Transparency Solomon Islands (TSI) is calling on the government to remove Members of Parliament in the composition of the Parliamentary Entitlement Commission (PEC).
TSI understands, under the Constitution, the Minister of Finance and Chairman of Public Accounts Committee are ex-officio Members of PEC.
It says the PEC has no real independence from MPs and the government of the day.
Executive Officer, Daniel Fenua alleges, PEC likes to think that it is independent but it is not.
Mr. Fenua adds TSI supports Rick Hou’s concern about conflict of interest saying there’s a conflict of interest when MPs as part of the PEC.
He explains the Minister of Finance and the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee are members of the Parliamentary Entitlement’s Commission.
