Anti-corruption watchdog, Transparency Solomon Islands (TSI) has commended the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) for its ambition for reform.
A statement from TSI said the reform plan aims to address poor procurement processes that previously caused reputational damage to the Ministry.
The Ministry’s Procurement Manager, Elison Gauwane announced that the ministry is now under new management that acknowledged its past mistakes and is reforming.
Mr Gauwane said there is no room for poor procurement practices, game playing or corruption.
He said the Ministry will maintain a zero-tolerance policy on fraud and takes a hard commercial approach against any firm or organisation attempting to make unjust claims against the Ministry.
Meanwhile, TSI Executive Officer, Edward Ronia said as an organisation that is very vocal against corruption with regards to government procurement procedures, the Ministry’s Internal Audit team is undertaking best practices to roll-back poor procurement and corruption.
Mr Ronia confirmed sighting copies of the Ministry’s procurement reform and described it as encouraging, as it has comprehensive accountable and transparent measures put in place.
