A four-day medical mission by the Taiwan Health Centre to a community Makira Ulawa Province has successfully ended this week.
During the mission, two Taiwanese medical doctors, Robbie Chang and James Kuo, visited the Province to provide free medical consultations and treatment at Ngonihau School and Haurango village near Kirakira.
The doctors were supported by nurses Sophie Wang and Peter Daniel.
Meanwhile, the Taiwanese Embassy says this is the first time the villagers ever saw a medical team visit the area in recent years, and local residents and students turned out in great numbers to seek medical advice.
Some even had to travel for nearly an hour by paddling canoes to the site of clinic service.
The Taiwanese medical team also hosted health awareness classes for the community on healthy food choices, skin diseases prevention, marijuana, betel nuts and tobacco control, children safety, parasite control, and metabolic diseases prevention.
Two hundred patients received medical treatment and around 600 students and residents participated in the health awareness classes.
