India’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands says the country should take advantage of India’s duty-free access to least developed countries.
Madhava Chandra made the statement yesterday when he presented his credentials at the Government House in Honiara.
Mr. Chandra said India grants duty-free access to all least developed countries and Solomon Islands should take advantage of this concession to increase its exports to India.
He said India is also ready to provide assistance to local capacity building and sharing its expertise developed over the years in eco-social development.
He also highlighted, India as a Dialogue Partner in the Pacific Island Forum is keen to enhance cooperation with Pacific Island Forum.
He adds India looks forward to expanding their commercial, economic and technical cooperation with Solomon Islands.
India offers fifteen scholarships annually under its Technical and Economic Co-operation Program to Solomon Islands experts and professionals to undergo the skilled enhancement courses in India.
Over 35 officials have already been trained under this Program in India.

Madhava Chandra presented his letters of credence at the Government House yesterday.
The presentation formalizes the appointment of High Commissioner Chandra as the chief representative of the Indian Government in Solomon Islands.
Speaking at the Government House, Chandra said relations between his country and the Solomon Islands are marked by an understanding of minds.
The High Commissioner also said both countries share a common view on most international and regional issues.
