Members of Team Solomon Islands had the honor to meet Queen Elizabeth the second at Glasgow, Scotland, during the Commonwealth Games.
A media statement today said, Triathlon Coach Nathan Thompson saw her on the opening night of the competition from a distance but three members of the team actually met the Queen in person.
Chef de Mission, Ronald Talasasa had the honor of speaking with the Queen, while athletes Rosefelo Sisosi and Sharon Firisua had lunch with her.
The statement adds, Team Solomon Islands’ Flag bearer Jenly Wini lifts her way to become eighth best in the entire Commonwealth Family.
She had the entire Solomon Islands backing her today as she competed in Group A of the women’s 58 kilograms weightlifting at the Clyde Auditorium at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Meanwhile, in the Snatch round, Jenly successfully lifted 79 kilograms, but was given a no lift when she went up to 82 kilograms.
In the Clean & Jerk round, she lifted 102 kilograms with ease, one of the higher starting weights, which caused an electric reaction from the audience.
Jenly was then unfortunately given a no lift when she increased to 105 kilograms.
A grand total weight of 181 kilograms put Jenly into the eight spot, in what was a very tough competition, against the likes of England’s Zoe Smith who broke Commonwealth records.
