“As soon as we are able, we will bring back our Dash 8, and will do our best to limit any
inconvenience to our passengers,” said Mr Gus Kraus CEO of Solomon Airlines.
“However as these improvements are being made, for about a three week period, we need to
operate an aircraft with a shorter landing distance.
“We are also acting according to our duty of care for our passengers, as with a shorter runway
available during works on Munda runway, we must consider risk and safety factors,” he said.
Solomon Airlines said under the temporary Munda schedule, some flights will be operated by Twin
Otter between Munda and Gizo, connecting in Gizo to Dash 8 flights to Honiara and return. On other
days, direct flights between Munda and Honiara will will be operated by the Twin Otter aircraft type.
“We are also aware that progress with the runway resurfacing is weather dependent, so we are
hoping for good weather and will continue to liaise with the airport authorities as to their progress,“
he added.
