The Special Representative of the United Nations General-Secretary on Violence Against Children Ms Marta Santos Pais has said it is now time UN scale up its work in Solomon Islands.
Ms Santos Pais made the remark last week during a three days visit to the country.
She said they have encouraged the government to redouble its efforts to bring registration process everywhere, saying UN and its partners are ready to support the Government of Solomon Islands.
“We have encouraged the Government to redouble its efforts to bring registration process everywhere and, of course, the United Nations and its partners stand ready to support the Government in this endeavour.”
Ms Santos Pais added that the UN is committed to supporting the government and its stakeholders.
“The United Nations is very committed to supporting the Government. It has a very important presence in Solomon Islands and I am very pleased that my colleagues of UNICEF are here working on a regular basis with the government, with civil society and community and faith-based leaders and the UN wants to continue to do that. The support of the UN is manifested in many ways. As you know, the UN wants to bring technical advice and expertise. It wants to tell about experiences that in other countries seem to work and bring good results not to impose them but to give references for the government to reflect on what is the best way for Solomon Islands.”
