Landowning groups of the Tina Hydro project including the Kochiabolo, Garo-Buhu and Vuraligi tribes have threatened to withdraw from involving in any future negotiations and implementation of the Tina Hydro project.
This follows what the tribes described as government failure to honor its original agreement with them.
A spokesperson for the Kochiabolo, Garo-Buhu and Vuraligi tribes George Vari confirmed this to SIBC News yesterday.
“We have now made a resolution that we are withdrawing from any land negotiations concerning the land and the processes involved and we are not thinking of meeting the government, although they have told us to go and talk with the Tina Hydro office, but we have exhausted that area.”
Mr Vari urgently calls on the government to quickly demonstrate its political will to address the existing issues in the agreement prior to any future development of the Tina Hydro project.
“Now we need a political will and not an administrative will, nor the lands office or even the project office. It has to come from a political will by the government and things will be done, no more no less, that’s how we view it now.”
