Special Coordinator of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, RAMSI, has said everybody must understand that the training facet of the police rearmament project is very rigorous.
Special Coordinator Justine Braithwaite said in a radio talk show hosted on the National Broadcaster yesterday.
The show was mainly to help explain to the public, the government’s decision to rearm certain units within the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, RSIPF.
Ms Braithwaite said training for units to be rearmed is going to be thoroughly done.
“Training is going to be a huge facet of the project and those officers who are selected for training are going to certainly find that the training standards are very very rigorous, so it would be important for everyone in the Solomons to understand that those officers should be Solomon Islands Government eventually make the decision to rearm the force, those officers have been through some extremely rigorous and demanding training.”
The RAMSI Special Coordinator said she thinks an important aspect of the rearmament project is community engagement.
“One of the most important aspects of this program is the community engagement aspect, certainly we want Solomon Islanders themselves to be educated and involved in the limited rearmament process and that means talking with as many of you as we can.”
