Two New Caledonian nationals who confessed to failing to declare more than 80-thousand dollars when they entered the country, have been fined 32-thousand dollars.
The duo, a couple, were charged with failing to declare foreign currencies to the Customs & Immigration and false declaration.
Both pleaded guilty to the charges on Monday afternoon before Principal Magistrate Shepherd Lapo.
The couple entered Solomon Islands on February 18, this year from Vanuatu as tourists.
They reportedly brought in 10-thousand euros the equivalent of around 89-thousand Solomon dollars.
In their Immigration, Customs and Quarantine incoming passenger declaration form they both declared ‘No’ to the question which asked whether they brought in 50-thousand Solomon dollars or foreign currency equivalent.
The couple sailed through customs with the cash but were questioned at the ANZ Bank when they went to sell their 10-thousand euros.
