The United Nations Children’s Fund, UNICEF, has put pen on paper on a 14.5 million dollars agreement with World Vision, Save the Children, Live and Learn Environmental Education and Solomon Islands Red Cross.
The signing ceremony took place last night at the Mendana Hotel Courtyard.
The funds will finance community projects in Makira, Guadalcanal, Isabel and Honiara.
Meanwhile, UNICEF’s Deputy Executive Director, Yoka Brandt and Regional Director for the East Asia and Pacific Regional Office, Daniel Toole are currently visiting the country.
UNICEF Honiara Office says the purpose of the visit is to strengthen the longstanding UNICEF-SIG partnership for the well-being of children, especially in health, nutrition, education, water and sanitation and protection.
The Executives will also observe the ongoing humanitarian response by UNICEF after the recent flooding in April, and meet with key Solomon Islands Government officials as well as other key donor and development partners for cooperation with UNICEF.
It adds, following the visit to Solomon Islands, both leaders will be travelling to New Zealand and Australia for bilateral meetings with these donor partners.
