A visiting US Marine has said rehabilitation work on the Scouts and Coast Watchers monument in Honiara is worth it.
Josh Rinaco is from the Okinawa Third Law Enforcement Battalion and was part of the US Marine group repainting the Scouts and Coast Watchers monument at the Commonwealth street.
He told SIBC News yesterday, local Scouts played a major role in the battle for Guadalcanal and they are helping to bring life back to the monument.
“We’re just here to help repaint the monument here, the Scouting because it brings such a huge impact on this island and if it wasn’t for the Scouting that we have from the locals we would have never been able to win the war, so it was the combination of the marine corp as well as other armed forces Australia, New Zealand and then as well as the local Scouts, so we’re just here to help bring life back to the monument and it’s a perfect day for us, it’s nice and sunny and we have lots of people to help us so it’s been good.”
SIBC News understands, the US Marines will be leaving for the Philippines this weekend.
