The Sailors from the New Zealand Offshore Patrol Vessel HMNZS Wellington which is currently in the country are participating in a number of civic activities at certain locations around Honiara.
The sailors will be working in groups together with Honiara City Council works staff at different Council venues including the Multipurpose Hall, Rove Clinic, the Mataniko Health Clinic and Mbokonavera Clinic.
The activities include painting and basic repair of the Honiara City Council buildings.
A media statement from the Honiara City Council said Operations Officer and team leader for the team at Rove Clinic, David Jaquiery said they are happy to help out with the repairs as part of their civic activities.
The statement added at the Multi-purpose Hall the women’s and men’s changing room facilities were painted and a second day of painting will take place today.
Meanwhile, at the Rove Clinic, work was done on the roof, the gutters, the external walls were painted together with some of the internal walls.
The sailors will also be participating in a friendly game of netball and futsal with the HCC staff at the Multipurpose Hall today.
The current activities are being coordinated via the New Zealand Aid Programme-funded support to HCC; the Honiara Economic Development Support Programme or HEDSUP.
