The celebration kicked off on Monday with the official launch of the Western Young Entrepreneurs Council, which attracted a large crowd at the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Hall. This launch provided a platform for young entrepreneurs to display their products and enhance their profile in the market.
Today’s activities included open water fun events such as swimming and fishing and concludes with a traditional queen show. An agricultural show was also hosted next to the market area, promoting organic farming practices, livestock husbandry, and green initiatives.
The official program will commence tomorrow with a parade from the MSG hall to John F. Kennedy Stadium led by the Royal Solomon Islands Police marching band, featuring speeches from the guest of honor, Honourable Wayne Ghemu, Minister of Provincial Government and Institutional Strengthening, and Western Province Premier Honourable Billy Veo.
Other key guests include officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, line ministry representatives, the diplomatic corps, and stakeholders.
A special segment will follow suit to showcase Plastic Wise Initiative and Positive Change for Marine Life Show.
“This program will demonstrate how woman’s group and inmates re-purpose plastic waste into other useful products and crafts,” the LOC chairman said.
“The aim is showcase our efforts to champion waste management and sustainable development practices,” he added.
Furthermore, Thursday’s events will focus on community engagement, as women’s groups from the province plan to visit the Gizo prison inmates and hospital, concluding the day’s activities with an evening Christmas carol at JFK stadium.
Mr. Talasasa acknowledged the support of various stakeholders, including Our Telekom, the National Provident Fund, Kastom Garden, the Young Entrepreneurs Council, the National Fisheries Development (NFD), and other government agencies, who have contributed to making this celebration possible.
