The World Health Organisation (WHO) is assisting the Royal Solomon Islands Police procure the country’s first breathe analysis equipment.
Police Commissioner Frank Prendagast says the Ministry of Justice has come onboard to develop the legislation to underpin the use of the device.
He adds, good progress has been made to accumulate support.
“We need to go through a process of consultation and the endorsements through the Attorney-General’s office before that goes to Cabinet for endorsement, so the work is well-advanced and we are getting very good support from our stakeholders and other agencies in driving that work forward and I am hopeful in the not too distant future there’ll be a paper before Cabinet with draft legislation.”
The Police Commissioner says the breathe analysis equipment is a priority for the Police Force this year.
He says it should ensure roads in Honiara are safe once implemented.
