WOMEN GAIN NEW SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE FROM TRAINING

Over thirty women and men working in community media and peace have gained new skills and knowledge in transformational leadership and character education, after successfully completing a UNDP-funded peace training in Honiara.

The group are part of the Vois Blong Mere Solomon network, and were trained for a week on transformational leadership and character education for peaceful co-existence.

Speaking at the workshop’s official closing last Friday, UNDP’s Deputy Resident Representative Akiko Suzuki said sharing, collaboration and healing took place amongst participants in the week of training and a network of community workers and friendship was created in the short time.

Ms Suzuki also said now that the training has delivered the concept and knowledge to participants, they are now urged to share it in their workplaces, homes and community.

The training was conducted by Vois Blo Mere Solomon, Ilukim Sustainability Solomon Islands and the Solomon Islands Women Federation for World Peace Solomon Islands.

Meanwhile, Malaita’s Women Development Officer Clera Rikimani told colleague participants to sustain the training when they return to their homes and communities, and to make a difference in peoples’ lives.

During the Transformational Leadership and Character Education for Peaceful Co-existence training, participants were trained on appropriate knowledge on peace and leadership issues to encourage flexible engagement in training, community education, media and advocacy approaches.

Speaking on behalf of Workshop Participants, Mrs Rikimani told participants that they are agents of change agents, and must continue to share with others.

She said “Nothing is better than being a peacemaker”.
