A two-day workshop on Solomon Islands Traditional Knowledge Inception has successfully ended today in Honiara.
Amongst its aims, the workshop wanted to identify traditional indicators of weather and climate and its reliability.
The Director of Meteorology David Hiriasia also told SIBC News, one reason for the workshop is about traditional knowledge of weather and climate.
“This workshop is basically about the traditional knowledge on weather and climate and how we can use it by collecting information and then apply it by using traditional knowledge and science to help people in the community because I think sometimes climate forecasts or seasonal forecasts are too technical so it is better to related them to what people already understand, so that’s one of the main reasons why this workshop was conducted.”
The workshop is facilitated by the Climate and Oceania Support Program in collaboration with the Solomon Islands Meteorological Services.
