The Honiara City Council says establishing an understanding about rubbish separation among the young generation in the capital is a challenging area for the Council.
Chief Health Inspector George Titiulu made the statement during a talk-back show yesterday.
Mr Titiulu said the younger generation need basic knowledge on identifying rubbish that can decompose and those that can not.
“It is a very challenging area about which we need to educate our younger generation now, especially to get them understand the basic knowledge on waste that can rot away and that which is undegradable.”
The Chief Health Inspector also said teaching children through experiments will help them understand the basics of rubbish separation.
He said children need to grow up with a culture of rubbish separation in their homes and communities.
