The Solomon Islands Meteorological Services has confirmed an active monsoon trough currently lying over the country is causing the wet weather.
Director of Meteorology David Hiriasia told SIBC News, the trough is still active over Solomon Islands and rain will persist throughout this week.
He says the trough is linked to a tropical cyclone Nathan, which is located in the Northwestern part of the Coral Seas.
“Currently what is still causing this rain is a monsoon trough which is quite active, located in the Solomon Islands and it is linked to Tropical Cyclone Nathan. This tropical cyclone is located in Queensland during the development of Tropical Cyclone Pam and so the trough is linked to that, which is in the Northwestern part of the Coral Seas at the moment.”
The Met Service Director said rain easing down during the week will very much depend on tropical cyclone Nathan’s movement.
He adds the situation is being closely monitored.
