The Afio rural health clinic in Small Malaita has recorded a diarrhea outbreak on children.
A Richard Hou from Afio told SIBC News, nurses at the clinic Julius Hite and Lucy Sito confirmed children aged between one to 14 years are most affected.
Mr Hou says according to the nurses the outbreak is worrying as the clinic records more than five cases each day.
“According to the Afio rural health centre’s senior nursing officers, they have confirmed that they can receive in one day between five to 20 cases at one time coming to the rural health centre. They have also confirmed that the age group being affected are between one to 14 year-olds.”
He adds, the clinic authorities are calling on all parents in Afio to practice proper hygiene for their children to prevent the disease.
“The Management at the Afio rural health centre wants to call on the public to cooperate with them in taking up measures to reduce the diarrhea outbreak. Measures such as safe preparation of food for the family, washing of hands properly before eating, clean our environment as well as to keep our eating utensils clean at all times.”
Mr Hou says the increase in diarrhoea cases was first noticed at the beginning of this year.
