AUSTRALIA-SOLOMONS BUSINESS FORUM CRUCIAL & EXCITING: PM SOGA

Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has described the seventh Australia-Solomon Islands Business Forum, which begins in Honiara tomorrow, as a crucial and exciting event for Solomon Islands.

The Prime Minister made the statement when he met this morning with the Chairman of the Australia-Solomon Islands Business Forum Frank Yourn and the Chairman of the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries Tony Koraua.

The Prime Minister said the Forum is a very crucial and exciting event for Solomon Islands as it endeavours to boost the growth of its private sector.

Manasseh Sogavare also praised the Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industries (SICCI) for bringing the event to Solomon Islands saying he looks forward to officially opening the Forum tomorrow morning.

This is the first time for Solomon Islands to host the Australia-Solomon Islands Business Forum.

Meanwhile, the two-member delegation from the Business Forum told the Prime Minister the programme will convene under the theme  ‘Signposting the Path to Sustainable Economic Growth’.

The delegation also said  the forum is all about finding ways to contribute towards achieving sustainable economic growth.

A number of issues that will be discussed during the Australia-Solomon Islands Business Forum include the development of a national mineral resources sector, and fiscal and regulatory building blocks for investment and growth.

Other topics include turning tourism potential into reality, developing sustainable national agribusiness and forestry economies, and developing infrastructure for economic growth.
