A delegation from the United States Government led by Senator Marsha Blackburn made a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in Honiara this afternoon (24 August 2022).
Solomon Islands Minister for National Planning and Development Coordination, Hon Rexon Ramofafia was in Washington DC last week to discuss the progress of several programs supported by the United States Government. This is in response to visits by US delegations to Solomon Islands in recent months.
The United States government is looking to increase and continue its support to Solomon Islands’ development. United States Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman who is in the country for The Battle of Guadalcanal 80th anniversary announced this at a media conference over the weekend.
The Government has rejected newspaper claims that Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare snubbed the visiting US delegation and other allies at a dawn service commemorating the 80th Anniversary of World War Two on Sunday 7 August in Honiara.
