The Democratic Coalition for Change Government said it will review the Political Parties Integrity Act.
Prime Minister Manasseh Damukana Sogavare confirmed while responding to a question asked by a member of the audience on SIBC’s talk-back show last weekend.
Asked what his government will do with the Political Parties Integrity Act 2014, which had failed to fulfil some of its intentions, Prime Minister Sogavare said they will look seriously into reviewing the Act.
“This group will look seriously in reviewing that Act to achieve the issues that when this review team went out to our people, they are very clear as to what they want to address. They said that political stability is what we want to be addressed and this system does not really address political stability, so we will be reviewing it, there are many ways of doing it, either we repeal it and then do it properly but it will be up to the new cabinet to give direction to the government as to how we will approach the review, but certainly a review must happen.”
SIBC News understands the Political Parties Integrity Act was passed by the last government on 27 May 2014, with a Political Parties Commission in place to administer political parties as provided for under the Act.
