The National Medical Store confirms a 100 percent availability of medicines for the current diarrhoea outbreak in the country.
National Medical Store Manager Willie Horoto told SIBC News today the store is well stocked with Oral Dehydration salt and Zinc Sulphate tablets to manage the current outbreak.
“There is a 100 percent availability of medicines like ORS and Zinc Sulphate and other medical supplies that can help to manage diarrhoea so there is a 100 percent availability of supplies.”
Mr Horoto adds the medicines were also available at all provincial clinics.
“All hospitals and second level medical stores have ORS or IV fluids, IV Cadular or even sets of medical supplies to manage diarrhoea.”
SIBC News understands health authorities will confirm the cause of the diarrhoea outbreak in its next update.
Meanwhile, the blood bank at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara has again run out of supply, leaving the hospital in a critical situation.
Blood supply at the bank was suddenly cut short as most people headed home for holidays.
NRH Medical Lab Manager Donald Tahani told SIBC’s “Distaem Nao” program today, it is difficult to organise a blood drive at the moment.
“It’s a bit difficult to organise a blood drive at this time so our blood supply is very low. It’s quite urgent, the situation of blood supply at the moment.”
Mr Tahani adds, his team is currently communicating with various social institutions, non government organisations and the public to voluntarily donate blood.
“As of yesterday we discussed and we’re trying to contact our various social intstitutions like the communities, churches and various organisations NGOs specially where hopefully we can have their support to come and donate blood.”
