A number of local food farmers supplying the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) are complaining of alleged corrupt practices within the Rove Correctional Headquarter.
A local supplier whom SIBC News spoke to on the condition of anonymity claims, his experience is especially with the division responsible for food purchasing and delivery.
He alleges, officers within the administration usually request for reward or commission when the local suppliers take order for delivery.
The complainant says, as a supplier, he would be asked to pay commission before delivering his order.
The local food supplier says some correctional service officers also borrow from the suppliers and never reimburse them.
He claims the officers borrow cash ranging from $200-$500.
The supplier demands an explanation on the processes of food delivery from the CSSI administration.
Meanwhile, Commissioner of the Correctional Service of Solomon Islands (CSSI) Francis Haisoma encourage local suppliers to raise such complaints through his office.
Commissioner Haisoma adds, he will order an internal investigation on practices that tarnish the image of the Solomon Islands Correctional Service.
“Through the process, they ask for money before proceeding on with supplies and in terms of taking debts I discouraged them because they should not be asking debts or commission from people and we will also look into it internally to figure out what’s going on, but it would be helpful if those people who lodge the complaint to come to us.”
