In preparation for the renovation of the market in Gizo, Western Province, some vendors will sell their goods at a temporary location.
Vendors yesterday started relocating to the Melanesian Spearhead Group building, which will serve as the temporary market site.
Market Vendors Association President Loretta Nasala said vendors will operate from the MSG building for four weeks.
“Only a few products will go there such as root crops, vegetables, cooked food and fish,” she said.
Vendors of betel nut and coconut will stay at the current site.
Mrs Nasala said vendors will later move from the MSG building to the Dalgro area in Malakerava where they will stay for eight months until work on the new market is complete.
Reeves International won the bid to rebuild the market, and SBD$18 million of funding for the project will come from the Australian Government.
