The Leader of Opposition has criticised the Government’s allocation of $8.8 million to coconut and cocoa programs in this year’s national budget saying it is not enough for rural farmers.
The Opposition leader points out, the productive sector is crucial to the economy.
Mr Manele also said it is unfortunate that there is no stand-alone provision for coffee, cocoa and kava in the budget.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Leader says the country must invest more in the agriculture and Livestock sector.
Jeremiah Manele says more foreign direct investment in the Agriculture and Fisheries sectors will enhance robust rural development.
He adds landowners must also take the initiative to invest in the productive sector but with government funding assistance.
The 2015 Budget, which currently stands at over $4 billion is currently before the Committee of Supply in Parliament.
