The Australian frigate, HMAS Parramatta has departed Honiara on Monday this week after spending three days in port.
HMAS Parramatta is visiting the Pacific to help Solomon Islands and other Pacific countries protect their fisheries resources.
A statement from the Australian High Commission office yesterday said, the vessel’s visit was also an opportunity to help the local community and take on the mighty Titans in a hard-fought soccer match.
On Saturday afternoon, the Titans faced the best football players from the HMAS Parramatta team in a friendly match.
The Titans narrowly defeated the visiting team 3-2.
The vessel’s Commanding Officer, Commander Andrew Willis said it was a great game played with great spirit.
Meanwhile, personnel from HMAS Parramatta assisted in refurbishing Tuvaruhu School in Honiara.
The school was severely damaged during the Mataniko flood in April.
Commander Willis said taking part in the refurbishment of Tuvaruhu School was a great opportunity for his personnel to contribute to the ongoing flood recovery, and to engage with local residents in Honiara.
He said the refurbishment project was a great success.
