The Westfield Junior Matildas end their ‘Pacific Step Up’ tour with a 14-0 win over the Solomon Islands Women’s national U-19s yesterday afternoon at Lawson Tama in Honiara.
The visiting Matildas led by nine goals to nil in the first half after a one sided affair.
As for the Solomon Islands team, this is their first ever competitive match and a tough one in front of a satisfactory crowd at Lawson Tama Stadium.
Solomon Islands Coach Patrick Miniti said this was a game they were looking forward to and they knew what they were up against.
But Miniti said despite the heavy lose, this was a game his team cherished as it was a historical game and a new experience for the girls.
” This is an important step in the development of women’s football in the country and especially for young girls to take more interest on it,” he said.
” It is a game that we want to take a lot out from as were a preparing for the Oceania u19 tournament.”
Despite an easy win , the Matildas coach Rae Dower said the match was very competitive with both sides displaying good football.
She said with their three games in the region, her players will now need time to recover.
” The team will have a time off to recover and we will check for injuries as well,” she said.
” I thought the Solomon team that played today (Yesterday) played with the best structure and gave as a good game.”
