The measles outbreak in the country has now claimed three lives, since the outbreak was announced in July this year.
This was revealed in a radio talk back show today by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.
Speaking during the talk back show this afternoon, Incident Controller of the whole measles outbreak operations, Dr Aaron Oritaimae says there have been three measles-related deaths so far.
“In terms of deaths we have reported three deaths associated with measles so far. From Malaita Province there is a reported one case of death which totals up the death cases to three relating to measles.”
Meanwhile, he says as of the end of this week there have been 1,308 suspected measles cases, most of which are from Honiara.
“As of the end of this week we have a total of 1,308 suspected cases of measles being reports so far and 355 new cases have been reported this week according to the reports made available to us. In terms of measles cases the Honiara City Council is still leading, with the majority of cases still within the city itself, which accounts for quite a lot of cases, about 959 cases.”
