The National Disaster Management Office is gearing up its operations in response to damages caused by Cyclone Pam.
Cyclone Pam is currently located North-Northeast of Anuta Islands, Temotu Province.
A media statement issued today says, the National Emergency Operation Centre has been fully activated and staff are now working around the clock to monitor the situation.
The National Operation Centre is also in close contact with Provincial Emergency Operation Centres and is sharing information of damages caused by bad weather associated to Tropical Cyclone Pam.
Malaita’s Provincial Emergency Operation Centre has been fully activated while Emergency Operation Centres of other Provinces have been activated on stand-by.
The statement says all Provincial Emergency Operation Centres are currently in direct communication with rural communities and are monitoring the status of the situation.
Meanwhile, all islands in Temotu Province are continuing to experience strong winds and rough seas.
Reports reaching the National Emergency Operation Centre states, a house has been destroyed by a fallen coconut tree, leaving three people injured.
The Centre says the people are receiving medical attention at their nearest clinic.
Reports also say people of Namo and Rovenga Villages in Tikopia have been evacuated to Teroro for safety.
The National Emergency Operation Centre says Duff Island and Anuta cannot be reached for information because of communication difficulties.
