NETBALL PLAYERS TO PARTICIPATE IN 3-ON-3 CHAMPIONSHIP

Solomon Islands male and female national basketball players will participate in the upcoming 3-on-3 Basketball Championship in Gold Coast, Australia next month.

Team Coach, Golden Kiloko told SIBC Sports the championship is the first to be organised in the Oceania Zone, saying Solomon Islands is invited to participate in the games.

“It’s the first of its king to be organised within the Oceania zone so they are inviting countries to participate and Solomon Islands is one of the countries qualified to take part in this 3-on-3 Championship.”

He adds, 3-on-3 basketball is a new basketball code recently introduced in Solomon Islands.

“In fact it’s a new code. 3-on-3 is a game usually played on the streets but then now FIBA the world basketball body is trying to adopt it to become a game played on world stage, so the Championship held at Gold Coast in Australia is all part of it so it’s an opportunity for Solomon Islands to be competing.”

The 3-on-3 Championship is scheduled to start on 12-13, September.

SIBC Sports understands, players have already been selected to take part in the Championship.
