O.N.O.C STAFF & CHEF DE MISSIONS DON’T UNDERSTAND ROLES

In sports, the Secretary General of the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) Ricardo Blas is concerned that some support staff and Chef de-Missions in some National Olympic Committees do not really understand their roles.

The ONOC Secretary made the comment during an interview with Pacific Journalists yesterday at the last day of the Oceania Chef- de-Mission Forum in Suva.

Reporting from Suva SIBC’s Rolland Ko’ofuli says Mr Blast says this is worrying therefore National Olympic Committees must send people who really understand the process of such forums.

He says athletes will be greatly affected when administrators do not know the requirements of the Olympic movement.

“The problem that we have with some of the support staff and along with the Chef de Mission; that some of them are new to the process that they are learning. This is a bad place to try to think that you are going to learn something in two days and that’s one of the important factors we try to express with the ONOC’s that to send someone that has the knowledge of being a Chef and you know, each NOC must define what they expect from the Chef de Mission.”
