The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force will continue to monitor the industrial action at the Solomon Islands Ports Authority, says Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast.
Commissioner Prendergast confirmed this at his weekly media conference at the Police Headquarters in Honiara today.
He told local journalists they are continuing to monitor the situation, adding that dialogue should be encouraged to resolve the issue.
“I just wanted to advise that we’re continuing to monitor the issues with the Solomon Islands Ports Authority. As you’re aware the strike notice lapsed on Tuesday and I think there’s been a decision by the workers not to go on strike. We’re very grateful for the support we got both from the workers, the union and from the Ports Authority in dealing with that matter and we just remind everyone that you know the way to solve this issue is through dialogue. We’ll continue to monitor that situation.”
SIBC News understands workers at the Ports Authority decided to go on strike after reforms to special advances within the state-owned enterprise were recently introduced.
