Provinces are assured, measles surveillance teams are monitoring and feeding the Ministry of Health and Medical Services with information on measles, say Undersecretary of Health Improvement, Dr Tenneth Dalipanda.
Dr Dalipanda made this clarification when local reporters asked him about efforts to curb measles outbreak in the provinces.
So far Western, Maliata, Rennell and Bellona, Temotu and Guadalcanal and Isabel provinces have all reported measles cases.
But Dr Dalipanda says, health surveillance teams stationed in the provinces are feeding the headquarter with provincial updates.
“We do have surveillance teams also in the provinces. That’s not just because of the outbreak now, but it’s an ongoing surveillance team that feeds us the information about any outbreak, so based on the data that we receive from them then we respond. The main provinces that have cases now are Malaita, Western, I think Temotu has reported a case now and Renbel, so there are a couple of cases, Temotu just one case, Isabel two, Renbel nine cases most likely from here and Guadalcanal province with 34 cases.”
He adds, Malaita province has about 47 measles cases believed to have come from Honiara.
