Members of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force from throughout the country are this week in Honiara undergoing community policing training on alternative strategies for teenagers.
The 30 Police officers are undertaking the “Blue Light Alternative Strategy for Teenagers” or B.L.A.S.T. training.
The training teaches police officers how to provide support and help for young people to learn skills that will help them to succeed in their endeavours.
Among the BLAST training objectives, police officers are expected to teach young people strategies for problem-solving; increase their self-confidence; become successful in overcoming challenges, and think of mistakes as learning situations.
As part of the training, participants will visit several schools in Honiara to put into practice what they have learnt with students.
Meanwhile, the Acting Police Commissioner Juanita Matanga says the Royal Solomon Islands Police strongly believe such training will enable officers to improve their relations with members of their communities, so that members of the communities will treat them with greater respect.
