A 12-member delegation from the Lavukal Trust board, Russell Islands has left the country for Fiji this afternoon to learn from Fiji’s land tenure system.
Provincial Premier Selwyn Mapuli and his Provincial Minister for Transport and Communication Humphrey Salopuka led the delegation.
A spokesperson for the Lavukal Trust Board, Eddie Grant Suku told SIBC News the trip is for the members to witness the establishment of Fiji’s customary land boards.
Mr Suku reported Mr Salopuka as saying like Fiji, Solomon Islands has experienced land problems on a regular basis and they hope to learn from Fiji’s land tenure system.
“He said Lavukal Trust board members will learn new things, how to govern customary land in Fiji and they will come and try to adopt some ways to control and govern land in Russell and especially in Solomon Islands,”
Mr Suku said most members of the delegation are landowners whose land are still under perpetual ownership.
The delegation returns on 1st September.
