The Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) has pledged $1.13 million for refurbishing the National Referral Hospital (NRH).
A statement said Minister Warren Wang of the ROC Embassy handed over the donation to Dr. Tautai Agikimua Kaitu’u, the Minister of Health and Medical Services yesterday.
It said the assistance will go towards the renovation of NRH facilities and premises, which have been gradually deteriorated over the years.
Minister Wang emphasized that ROC would like to enhance the Solomon Islands Government’s capacity in health care and medical services, to provide medical-related scholarships and training programs in Taiwan.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Tautai Kaitu’u said the Government and people of Solomon Islands acknowledged the assistance in the construction of NRH from Taiwan two decades ago.
He expressed appreciation for the timely renovation project offered by the ROC Government and expected to see NRH to function for the next decade.
