The Santa Catalina, also known as Aorigi Arts and Cultural Exhibition Centre in Makira-Ulawa Province, is nearing completion, marking an important milestone in efforts to preserve and promote the province’s cultural heritage.
Chief David Faerua of the Aorigi community said the centre will serve as an important space for protecting and sharing local traditions, artefacts, and stories with visitors from Solomon Islands and abroad.
“This centre will serve as a cultural hub where our local artefacts and stories can be preserved and showcased for both domestic and international visitors,” Faerua said.
He also expressed appreciation to the Makira-Ulawa Provincial Government for its continued support in helping bring the project close to completion.
“I would like to thank the Makira-Ulawa Provincial Government for its assistance and continued support toward this project,” he said.
In a statement, Provincial Secretary Christopher Waiwori of the Makira-Ulawa Provincial Government acknowledged and thanked all individuals and groups who have contributed their time, resources, and efforts toward the development of the centre.
Waiwori said the project reflects the steady progress taking place across the province.
“Development in Makira-Ulawa Province is gradually taking shape, slowly but surely,” the statement said.
