The Commonwealth Observers Group covering the country’s National General Election has congratulated Solomon Islands for a free and fair election process so far. In its interim statement, the Commonwealth observers group is satisfied, the election process in the country has been peaceful.

Gizo Kolombangara has a new MP-elect. He is Jimson Fiau Tanangada. In his win, Mr Tanangada has unseated the current care-taker Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo. The Returning Officer for Gizo-Kolombangara, Patrick Toiraena had announced the win after eleven pm last night.
A former USP lecturer from Isabel Province, Dr Culwick Togamana has won the Maringe Kokota constituency seat. Dr Culwick ran as an independent during the elections and has unseated former MP, Varian Longamei, who had also contested as an independent.
