LIVE DRESS REHEARSAL STAGED FOR SOLOMON CONTINGENT

Cultural groups representing Solomon Islands in the upcoming fifth Melanesian Festival of Arts and Culture in Papua New Guinea has staged a live dress rehearsal today at the National Museum Grounds.

A government statement yesterday said the one day free show will include traditional and contemporary performances, a theatre performance by the Stages of Change Theatre group, Fashion Show and exhibitions and demonstrations by craftsmen and women in the country.

The show is expected to be a compact programme of artistic and cultural excitement starting at 10am to 6pm today.

Organised by the Culture Division of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the show is organised to provide the public and leaders an opportunity to see what is going to be presented in PNG during the Melanesian Arts Festival.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director of Culture and Chief Organiser, Dennis Marita said the dress rehearsal will help his artistic team oversee areas needing improvement in artistic aspects of performances and exhibitions.

Mr Marita adds, the show will also ensure that all participants are well prepared to fulfill all expectations for their participation.

Cultural groups from Temotu, Malaita, Isabel, Rennell and Bellona, Makira and Guadalcanal will perform alongside traditional and contemporary music bands from Honiara.

Local artists and craftsmen and women have also showcased unique talents through their art and craft works.

The public is encouraged to attend this free event, which promises more excitement and fun today.
